  • Co issues downside guidance for FY19, sees EPS of $1.25-1.50 vs. $3.38 S&P Capital IQ Consensus; sees FY19 revs of $1.4 bln vs. $1.66 bln S&P Capital IQ Consensus.
"While we are proud of our accomplishments in 2018, we had a soft start to 2019 versus last year's strong performance with the launch of WW Freestyle. Given our Winter Campaign did not recruit as expected, we have been focused on improving member recruitment trends. We quickly moved to course correct, including introducing new creative with a stronger call-to-action and further optimizing our media mix.... Looking ahead, I'm happy to say that Oprah Winfrey will play a central role in our upcoming TV and digital marketing campaign for Spring, bringing to life a clear message on how WW is the program that works.... However, due to the soft start to the key Winter Season, we expect member recruitment for 2019 to be below 2018 levels, resulting in lower revenue and earnings for the year. We are focused on driving member recruitment and exercising strict cost discipline, while continuing to invest in the areas that will drive future growth."

-=Weight Watchers (WTW) sinks on JPMorgan downgrade

(Bloomberg) -- Weight Watchers International fell on Friday, dropping for a third straight session after JPMorgan downgraded the stock to neutral from overweight, citing indications of “a weak start to the New Year Resolution enrollment period, which is the key sign up period of the year.”
Analyst Christina Brathwaite also slashed her price target on the stock by nearly 50 percent, dropping it to a Street-low of $37 from $70. The average target is $74, according to Bloomberg data.
Shares slumped as much as 10 percent, extending a lengthy decline that has erased more than two-thirds of the company’s value since June. The stock is trading at its lowest level since June 2017.
“Current trends will make it difficult for the company to generate significant growth in members,” JPMorgan wrote to clients, citing channel checks for its view on membership activity. “If sales growth comes in below expectations, WTW’s profitability will likely also be challenged.”
The company “could make up for the shortfall in the coming months (particularly as some of the shortfall may be related to the government shutdown as furloughed workers are less likely to start a diet membership),” but JPMorgan sees this as unlikely.
Currently, nine firms have a buy rating on Weight Watchers, while five rate it a hold and zero rate it a sell, according to Bloomberg.

==WW (WTW) moves to the Nasdaq from the New York Stock Exchange

WW, the company formerly known as Weight Watchers International Inc., said late Monday it was switching its stock listing to the Nasdaq from the New York Stock Exchange. WW shares are expected to begin trading as a Nasdaq-listed security on Oct. 15, keeping the symbol WTW, the company said.

Weight Watchers changed its name last week, saying it would focus on wellness.

NEW YORK, April 16, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Weight Watchers International, Inc. (Nasdaq: WTW) (“WW”), a global wellness company and the world’s leading commercial weight management program, today announced that it will begin trading on the NASDAQ Global Select Market under its new ticker symbol WW, effective Monday, April 22, 2019. =Weight Watchers (WTW) to change name to 'WW'

Weight Watchers International Inc. (WTW) said Monday it will change its name to WW, as it looks to better reflect its broader role as a consumer health company. The company said its new tagline will be "Wellness that Works," and starting in January 2019, every product sold by WW will have not artificial sweeteners, flavors, colors and preservatives. "We are committed to always being the best weight management program on the planet, but now we're putting our decades of knowledge and expertise in behavioral science to work for an even greater mission," said Chief Executive Mindy Grossman.

Oprah Winfrey, who owns a about an 8% stake in the company according to FactSet, said: "From the moment I chose to invest in the company and join the board, I have believed that the role WW can play in people's lives goes far beyond a number on the scale." The stock has run up 63% over the past 12 months through Friday,
***

People no longer need a weight loss goal to join up, for one. And starting Oct. 4, the company's app will be updated: A new program, WellnessWins (there's that double W again), will reward WW members for things like tracking their meals and attending wellness workshops; the FitPoints algorithm will be more personalized and encourage high-intensity and strength-training exercises; and new groups are being added for people with common interests (think: vegetarians, new moms, yoga fans). WW is also partnering with meditation app company Headspace on customized content that comes out later this fall (first in English only, and later German and French).
