    Teekay companies

Jens Torben Karlshoej was born in Denmark and emigrated to the United States in his early 20s.  In 1973 Karlshoej founded the Teekay Shipping Group in New York, incorporating it in Liberia, and using his initials to give the company its name. His strategy was for the company to manage and operate a range of tankers, but to charter the vessels from independent ship owners, not to own them.

    • Today Teekay is one of the world’s largest marine energy transportation, storage and production companies.
    • The majority of TK's  assets are concentrated intthree ‘daughter-firms:’ Teekay LNG Partners (TGP), Teekay Offshore Partners (TOO), and Teekay Tankers (TNK). Teekay Corporation is the general partner (“GP”) for both TGP and TOO and is the major shareholder for TNK.
