July 26 (Reuters) - United Natural Foods Inc said on Thursday it would buy U.S. supermarket operator Supervalu Inc in a deal valued at about $2.9 billion, including debt.

United Natural Foods, which is a distributor of natural and organic foods, said it would offer $32.50 per share in cash, representing a 67 percent premium to Supervalu's Wednesday close.

=Supervalu (SVU) acquires Unified Grocers for $375 million

Supervalu Inc. announced Monday that it bought Unified Grocers Inc., a West Coast wholesale grocery distributor that supplies independent retailers in Oregon, Washington, and Northern California, for $375 million.

The deal, which will likely close in mid-to-late summer, involves $114 million in cash plus Supervalu's assumption of Unified Grocers' net debt of $261 million as of April 1.
