Silver Wheaton (SLW) to become Wheaton Precious Metals (WPM)

Silver Wheaton (NYSE:SLW) says shareholders approved a company name change to Wheaton Precious Metals, effective immediately.

• The company expects trading with a new WPM ticker on the NYSE and Toronto Stock Exchange to be effective on or about May 16.
• President and CEO Randy Smallwood says the changes marks the evolution from a pure silver streaming company to a diversified precious metals streaming company.
• During Q1, 46% of SLW's total revenues were attributable to the sale of silver and 54% to gold.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) _ Silver Wheaton Corp. (SLW) on Tuesday reported fourth-quarter net income of $10.9 million, after reporting a loss in the same period a year earlier.

The Vancouver, British Columbia-based company said it had net income of 2 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for asset impairment costs, were 19 cents per share.

The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of 10 analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 17 cents per share.

The precious metals streaming company posted revenue of $258 million in the period, also topping Street forecasts. Ten analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $252.9 million.

For the year, the company reported net income of $195.1 million, or 45 cents per share, swinging to a profit in the period. Revenue was reported as $891.6 million.

Silver Wheaton shares have risen 3 percent since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Tuesday, shares hit $19.93, a rise of 12 percent in the last 12 months.
