=Steelcase Inc. (SCS) reported earnings on Thur 20 Sept 2018 (a/h)



GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) _ Steelcase Inc. (SCS) on Thursday reported fiscal second-quarter profit of $49.1 million.
On a per-share basis, the Grand Rapids, Michigan-based company said it had net income of 41 cents. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring gains, were 36 cents per share.
The office furniture maker posted revenue of $875.8 million in the period.
For the current quarter ending in December, Steelcase said it expects revenue in the range of $885 million to $915 million.
The company expects full-year earnings to be $1.10 to $1.15 per share.
Steelcase shares have risen 6 percent since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Thursday, shares hit $16.15, an increase of 16 percent in the last 12 months.

Steelcase reports EPS in-line, revs in-line; guides Q2 EPS in-line
  • Reports Q1 (May) earnings of $0.14 per share, in-linewith the Capital IQ Consensus of $0.14; revenues rose 2.6% year/year to $754 mln vs the $754.17 mln Capital IQ Consensus.
  • Gross margin of 31.6% in the current quarter represented a decline of 170 basis points compared to the prior year and reflected mixed results across the segments
  • Co issues in-line guidancefor Q2, sees EPS of $0.25-$0.30, excluding item, vs. $0.28 Capital IQ Consensus Estimate; sees Q2 revs of $865-$890 mln, which includes revenue from its Smith System Manufacturing acquisition, expected to close at the end of June. The Capital IQ consensus is $813.10 mln.
  • Commentary: "We expect commodity cost increases to continue pressuring our gross margin for another quarter or two while these price adjustments take fuller effect. In addition, our revenue in the Americas over the same period is expected to include a growing mix of project business, including projects won at earlier price levels, which will impact our year-over-year gross margin comparisons..."

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) _ Steelcase Inc. (SCS) on Tuesday reported fiscal third-quarter profit of $25.7 million.
On a per-share basis, the Grand Rapids, Michigan-based company said it had net income of 22 cents.
The office furniture maker posted revenue of $772.1 million in the period.
For the current quarter ending in February, Steelcase expects its per-share earnings to range from 14 cents to 18 cents.
The company said it expects revenue in the range of $740 million to $765 million for the fiscal fourth quarter.
Steelcase shares have declined 20 percent since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Tuesday, shares hit $14.40, a fall of 11 percent in the last 12 months.

Steelcase beats by $0.03, beats on revs; guides Q3 EPS below consensus, revs in-line
  • Reports Q2 (Aug) earnings of $0.26 per share, excluding non-recurring items*, $0.03 better than the Capital IQ Consensus of $0.23; revenues rose 2.3% year/year to $775.6 mln vs the $759.83 mln Capital IQ Consensus; while order growth was flat. The Americas revenue and orders declined less than 1 percent compared to the prior year, as continued growth in the company's new products and solutions was offset by declines in traditional furniture applications. Demand from large customers remained subdued, but the rate of decline was lower than the first quarter. EMEA revenue increased 5 percent, or 4 percent on an organic basis, and orders grew modestly, reflecting mixed results across the region. The Other category posted revenue growth of 20 percent, or 19 percent on an organic basis, driven by continued strength in Asia Pacific, and order growth was 3 percent.
    • *"The property gain and discrete tax benefit recorded in the second quarter had the effect of increasing earnings per share by approximately $0.05 after consideration of the related variable compensation expense."

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) _ Steelcase Inc. (SCS) on Wednesday reported fiscal first-quarter net income of $18.1 million.
On a per-share basis, the Grand Rapids, Michigan-based company said it had profit of 15 cents.
The office furniture maker posted revenue of $735.1 million in the period.
For the current quarter ending in September, Steelcase said it expects revenue in the range of $750 million to $780 million.
Steelcase shares have fallen nearly 9 percent since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, shares hit $16.30, a rise of roughly 10 percent in the last 12 months.

Steelcase misses Q3 estimates; guides Q4 below estimates (limited coverage) :
  • Reports Q3 (Nov) earnings of $0.30 per share, $0.03 worse than the two analyst estimate of $0.33; revenues fell 1.5% year/year to $787.6 mln vs the $812.85 mln two analyst estimate. Organic rev growth over the prior year was 1% after adjusting for ~$29.9 mln of unfavorable currency translation effects and the impact of a small acquisition, net of divestitures.
    • The Americas and Other category posted organic revenue growth of 3% and 9%, respectively, while EMEA posted an organic decline of 8%. The organic decline in EMEA in the current quarter compares to 14% organic revenue growth in the prior year, which was primarily driven by a number of project orders received in the first half of fiscal 2015 for which revenue was recognized in the third and fourth quarters.
    • EMEA orders grew 20% on an organic basis in the third quarter of fiscal 2016 and included requests for extended delivery dates and orders for certain products with extended lead times.
    • In the Americas, third quarter orders were down 1% on an organic basis compared to the prior year.
  • Co issues downside guidance for Q4, sees EPS of $0.20-0.24 vs. $0.26 two analyst estimate; sees Q4 revs of $720-745 vs. $771.85 mln two analyst estimate. which reflects an expected range of an organic revenue decline of 2% to organic revenue growth of 1% compared to the prior year.
