PetMed Express (PETS)'s reported first-quarter earnings missed expectations.
Net income totaled $7.8 million, or 39 cents per share, up from $5.3 million, or 26 cents per share, last year. Sales totaled $96.2 million, up from $80.0 million year-over-year. The FactSet consensus was for EPS of 40 cents and sales of $87.9 million. Reorder sales rose 19% to $80.4 million, and new orders were up 29% to $15.8 million. PetMed acquired 186,000 new customers for the quarter, up from 140,000 last year. The company is considered an essential business and was open during coronavirus lockdown periods. PetMed declared a quarterly dividend of 28 cents per share, payable on August 7 to shareholders of record as of the close of business on July 31. PetMed stock has soared 72.3% for the year to date.

PetMed Express beats by $0.19, beats on revs
  • Reports Q2 (Sep) earnings of $0.49 per share, $0.19 better thanthe Capital IQ Consensus of $0.30; revenues rose 9.7% year/year to $66.7 mln vs the $63.41 mln Capital IQ Consensus.
  • New order sales increased 9%, to $11.6 million for the quarter ended September 30, 2017, compared to $10.7 million for the same quarter in the prior year.
  • "The trend we have seen in the last two quarters continued with increases in both new order and reorder sales during the quarter, along with an accelerated increase to net income for the third consecutive quarter. This increase to net income can be attributed to increased revenue with a shift in sales to higher margin items in the flea, tick and heartworm categories. DELRAY BEACH, Fla. (AP) _ PetMed Express Inc. (PETS) on Monday reported fiscal fourth-quarter net income of $7.5 million.
On a per-share basis, the Delray Beach, Florida-based company said it had profit of 37 cents.
The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 26 cents per share.
The pet pharmacy company posted revenue of $63 million in the period, which also beat Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $56.3 million.
For the year, the company reported profit of $23.8 million, or $1.17 per share. Revenue was reported as $249.2 million.
PetMed shares have increased 5 percent since the beginning of the year. The stock has increased 29 percent in the last 12 months.

  • Reports Q3 (Dec) earnings of $0.24 per share, in-line with the Capital IQ Consensus of $0.24; revenues rose 3.2% year/year to $50.9 mln vs the $49.28 mln Capital IQ Consensus.
