Nutanix beats by $0.28, beats on revs; CEO to retire; also announces that Bain Capital will invest in $750 mln in convertible notes


  • Reports Q4 (Jul) loss of $(0.39) per share, excluding non-recurring items, $0.28 better than the S&P Capital IQ Consensus of ($0.67); revenues rose 9.3% year/year to $327.87 mln vs the $319.46 mln S&P Capital IQ Consensus.
  • Co also announces that CEO Dheeraj Pandey plans to retire from the Nutanix management team upon the selection and appointment of Nutanix's next CEO. Pandey will remain Chairman and CEO while a formal search is conducted.
  • Co also announces that Bain Capital Private Equity will make an investment of $750 million in convertible notes. Nutanix plans to use the investment to support the Company's growth initiatives. In connection with the investment, David Humphrey and Max de Groen, Managing Directors of Bain Capital, will join the Nutanix Board of Directors.

  • Reports Q1 (Oct) loss of $0.71 per share, excluding non-recurring items, $0.04 better than the S&P Capital IQ Consensus of ($0.75); revenues rose 0.5% year/year to $314.8 mln vs the $306.42 mln S&P Capital IQ Consensus.
    • Billings were $380.0 million, down from $383.6 million in the first quarter of fiscal 2019, reflecting billings compression from the company's ongoing transition to subscription and the significant reduction of hardware billings from the prior year

    • Reports Q3 (Apr) loss of $0.56 per share, excluding non-recurring items, $0.04 better than the S&P Capital IQ Consensus of ($0.60); revenues were unchanged year/year at $287.6 mln vs the $297.2 mln S&P Capital IQ Consensus. Billings: $346.0 million, down from $351.2 million in the third quarter of fiscal 2018 Software and Support Revenue: $265.8 million, up 17% year-over-year from $226.8 million in the third quarter of fiscal 2018.

    Nutanix beats by $0.14, beats on revs; guides JanQ EPS in-line, revs in-line although mid-point above consensus 
    • Reports Q1 (Oct) loss of $(0.13) per share, excluding non-recurring items, $0.14 better than the S&P Capital IQ Consensus of ($0.27); revenues rose 13.7% year/year to $313.3 mln vs the $305.2 mln S&P Capital IQ Consensus.
    • Co issues in-line guidance for Q2 (Jan), sees EPS of approx $(0.25), excluding non-recurring items, vs. ($0.26) S&P Capital IQ Consensus; sees Q2 revs of $325-335 mln vs. $326.51 mln S&P Capital IQ Consensus.
    • Co says the OctQ results prove that its core business continues to grow strongly and puts the co on a solid path to meet its goal of at least $3 billion in software and support billings by 2021.
    • Co also says 51% of billings in Q1 were derived from subscriptions, up from 31% in the same quarter last year, and subscription revenue grew 104% YoY. Co expects to continue this shift towards subscription, driving a cloud-like, pay-as-you-grow business model.
