=Beyond Meat (BYND) reported earnings on Tue 4 Aug 20 (a/h)

Beyond Meat reports EPS in-line, beats on revs
Reports Q2 (Jun) loss of $0.02 per share, in-line with the S&P Capital IQ Consensus of ($0.02); revenues rose 68.5% year/year to $113.34 mln vs the $99.35 mln S&P Capital IQ Consensus.
    • During the second quarter of 2020, net loss included $5.9 million of costs associated with the product repacking activities attributable to COVID-19, $1.6 million in product donation costs related to the Company's COVID-19 relief campaign, and $1.5 million of early debt extinguishment costs associated with the Company's refinanced credit arrangements. Excluding these costs, Adjusted net loss was $1.2 million in the second quarter of 2020, or $0.02 per diluted common share, compared to Adjusted net income of $2.3 million, or $0.05 per diluted common share, in the year-ago period.
    • Adjusted EBITDA was $11.7 million, or 10.3% of net revenues, in the second quarter of 2020 compared to Adjusted EBITDA of $6.9 million, or 10.2% of net revenues, in the year-ago period.
    • Adjusted gross profit, which excludes $5.9 million of costs associated with product repacking activities due to COVID-19, was $39.6 million, or Adjusted gross margin of 34.9% of net revenues, in the second quarter of 2020, compared to Adjusted gross profit of $22.7 million, or Adjusted gross margin of 33.8% of net revenues, in the year-ago period. The increase in Adjusted gross profit and Adjusted gross margin was primarily due to direct materials and packaging input cost savings, direct labor efficiencies, and an increase in the volume of products sold in the second quarter of 2020 compared to the year-ago period.
    • Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as previously communicated, the Company experienced a meaningful slowdown in its foodservice business as various regions around the world implemented stay-at-home orders, resulting in the closure or limited operations of many of its foodservice customers. At the same time, the Company experienced an increase in demand by its retail customers as consumers shifted towards more at-home consumption, which more than offset the decline in sales to foodservice customers. While many of the Company's foodservice customers have reopened, most are operating under various local restrictions and continue to navigate a highly uncertain environment. Given the uncertainty regarding the ultimate duration, magnitude and effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, management remains unable to predict the continuing impact of COVID-19 on its business for the balance of the year with reasonable certainty. As such, the Company's 2020 outlook, previously provided on February 27, 2020, remains suspended until further notice.

-=Beyond Meat (BYND) reported earnings on Tue 4 May 20 (a/h)

Beyond Meat beats by $0.11, beats on revs, suspends 2020 outlook

  • Reports Q1 (Mar) earnings of $0.03 per share, $0.11 better than the S&P Capital IQ Consensus of ($0.08); revenues rose 141.5% year/year to $97.1 mln vs the $87.1 mln S&P Capital IQ Consensus.
  • Growth in net revenues was primarily due to an increase in volume sold, partially offset by lower net price per pound. Growth in volume sold was driven mainly by expansion in the number of distribution points both domestically and abroad, higher sales velocities at existing retail customers, and contribution from new products introduced subsequent to the first quarter of 2019.
  • Adjusted EBITDA was $12.7 million compared to an Adjusted EBITDA loss of $2.1 million in the year-ago period.
  • Suspends 2020 Outlook: The company continues to expect to benefit from food-at-home consumer demand in its retail channel, however, given the ongoing uncertainty related to the COVID-19 pandemic, including the magnitude and duration of the impact to the foodservice channel, in particular, the company is suspending its 2020 outlook previously provided on February 27, 2020 until further notice.

Beyond Meat said it would launch an aggressive discounting onslaught over the summer, in an effort to boost sales while shortages drive prices of real meat higher. Beyond Meat stock jumped Wednesday.

CEO Ethan Brown announced the plans during the company's conference call to discuss first-quarter earnings, which beat expectations. But the company also said that a test of a sandwich patty at McDonald's (MCD) — a potentially huge customer — had ended.

As coronavirus outbreaks shutter large meat processing plants in the U.S., thinning out supply in the process, Beyond Meat said it would offer bigger package sizes in grocery stores, with 10 to 12 burgers at a time. And as the coronavirus pandemic constricts restaurant service, management said it was redirecting resources toward its retail business.

Beyond Meat said in March that "this is a time of hypergrowth," as it forges ahead with production plans in Asia despite worries about the coronavirus.

The company's products last month launched in China, via a collaboration with Starbucks (SBUX) that put Beyond Meat on the coffee chain's menus. Beyond Meat has made similar tie-ups with other restaurants.

=Beyond Meat (BYND) reported earnings on Mon 29 July 2019 (a/h)

Beyond Meat misses by $0.16, beats on revs; raises FY19 revs above consensus, EBITDA to positive from break even
Beyond Meat announces 3.25 mln share Proposed Public Offering of Common Stock, 3 mln by selling shareholders

  • Reports Q2 (Jun) loss of $0.24 per share, $0.16 worse thanthe S&P Capital IQ Consensus of ($0.08); revenues rose 286.8% year/year to $67.3 mln vs the $52.71 mln S&P Capital IQ Consensus, primarily due to an increase in sales volumes of products in our fresh platform across both our retail and restaurant and foodservice channels, driven by expansion in the number of retail and foodservice points of distribution, including new strategic customers, international customers, and greater demand from our existing customers.
  • Gross profit was $22.7 million, or 33.8% as a percentage of net revenues, in the second quarter of 2019, compared to $2.6 million, or 15.0% as a percentage of net revenues, in the prior-year period. The increase in gross profit and gross margin was primarily due to an increase in the amount of products sold, resulting in operating leverage and production efficiency improvements. A greater proportion of gross revenues from the Company's fresh platform also contributed to the improvement in gross margin.
  • Co issues upside guidancefor FY19, raises FY19 revs to exceed $240 mln from $210 mln vs. $223.94 mln S&P Capital IQ Consensus. Adjusted EBITDA to be positive compared to prior expectations of break-even Adjusted EBITDA.

  • === Before market close
The stock has been on an absolute tear since pricing 9.6 mln shares in an IPO at $25 in early May. The stock is up nearly 400% since opening at $46 on its first day of trading as momentum traders have piled in.
    • Analysts are looking for Q2 EPS of ($0.08) with revenue up 203% to $52.7 mln.
    • The company has guided for break-even EBITDA on revenue of ~$210 mln (+140%). The company will have to handily exceed estimates on the top line because analysts are expecting FY19 revenue of $224 mln.
    • The stock continues to squeeze higher as it announces new products and partners for distribution. Beyond Meat announced Beyond Beef last month. Blue Apron will start carrying the Beyond Burger next month.Bloomberg last week reported that the company is working on a Beyond bacon product.
    • The biggest headwind for the business currently is capacity constraints.
    • With a ~$14 bln market value, the stock trades at a beyond belief ~60x sales multiple vs. the average for protein producers at 1x sales and the average for consumer packaged goods stocks at less than 4x sales.
    • According to S3 Partners LLC, some 44% of the float is sold short. While there are plenty of reasons to be excited about the company's prospects, the stock appears to be inflated by short squeezes and the limited supply of the stock.

    ** 1 and 2 days later  **

Beyond Meat beats by $0.01, beats on revs; guides FY19 revs above consensus
    • Reports Q1 (Mar) loss of $0.14 per share, excluding non-recurring items, $0.01 better than the S&P Capital IQ Consensus of ($0.15); revenues rose 214.1% year/year to $40.2 mln vs the $38.93 mln S&P Capital IQ Consensus and $38-40 mln preannouncement, driven primarily by an increase in sales of The Beyond Burger, expansion in the number of retail and foodservice points of distribution, including new strategic customers, and greater demand from our existing customers. The Company discontinued its frozen chicken strips product line during the first quarter of 2019, causing a decline in frozen product revenues consistent with its shift to concentrate more on its fresh products platform.
    • Gross profit was $10.8 million, or 26.8% as a percentage of net revenues, in the first quarter of 2019, compared to $2.1 million, or 16.1% as a percentage of net revenues, in the prior-year period. The increase in gross profit and gross margin was primarily due to an increase in the amount of product sold with resulting operating leverage, and improved production efficiencies. A greater proportion of revenues from the Company's fresh platform products also contributed to the improvement in gross margin.
    • Co issues upside guidance for FY19, sees FY19 revs of exceed $210 mln vs. $204.92 mln S&P Capital IQ Consensus; breakeven EBITDA vs. ($12) mln ests.
    • "We are pleased with our expansion in gross margin and the progress we are achieving in Adjusted EBITDA, which gives us confidence in our ability to continue to improve profitability and cash flow generation as we rapidly scale our business."
