BP p.l.c. (BP) reported earnings on Tue 7 Feb 23 (b/o)

 ** charts after earnings **

Earnings came in at $1.59 a share, up 29%. Revenue topped expectations, rising almost 33% to $69.3 billion. Free cash flow shot up 29% to $5.33 billion.

For the year, BP's posted profit of $27.6 billion, or $8.74 per share. That topped its previous record of $26 billion from 2008. The 2022 results included a $25 billion write-down on loss of Russian assets.

The big strategic shift that BP announced on Tuesday signals that the world may be headed for a new energy supercycle, one that could boost the fortunes of oil and gas and renewable energy all at once.

Starting around 2020, big oil companies, particularly in Europe, unveiled long-term strategies that included less drilling for fossil fuels and more investments in clean energy. BP ‘s (ticker: BP) new strategy sends a slightly different message: In the near term, the world’s going to need more of both. The London-based energy company says it will phase out oil and gas more slowly than previously expected, while ramping up clean energy faster than it had anticipated. All told, the changes could result in its capital spending increasing by double-digits in the near-term, amounting to a boost of about $2 billion this year. “We are growing our investment into our transition and, at the same time, growing investment into today’s energy system,” said CEO Bernard Looney.

=BP PLC (BP) reported earnings on Tue 7 Feb 2017 (b/o)

    • BP misses 4Q profit forecasts

LONDON (AP) _ BP PLC (BP) on Tuesday reported fourth-quarter net income of $497 million, after reporting a loss in the same period a year earlier.
On a per-share basis, the London-based company said it had net income of 16 cents. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring gains, were 13 cents per share.
The results fell short of Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 16 cents per share.
The oil and gas company posted revenue of $52.12 billion in the period.
For the year, the company reported net income of $115 million, or 4 cents per share, swinging to a profit in the period. Revenue was reported as $186.61 billion.
BP shares have declined 4 percent since the beginning of the year. The stock has risen 17 percent in the last 12 months.

    Tuesday, November 1, 2016

    =BP reported earnings on Tue 1 Nov 2016 (b/o)

BP beats by $0.26, beats on revs; lowers FY16 capex :
    • Reports Q3 (Sep) earnings of $0.30 per share, $0.26 better than the Capital IQ Consensus of $0.04; revenues fell 16.2% year/year to $47.05 bln vs the $45.89 bln two analyst estimate.
    • Production
      • Production for the quarter was 2,110mboe/d, 5.9% lower than the third quarter of 2015.
      • Underlying production for the quarter decreased by 2.0%, mainly due to seasonal turnaround and maintenance activities, and the impact of weather and the Pascagoula plant outage in the Gulf of Mexico.
      • For the nine months, production was 2,209mboe/d, broadly flat versus the same period in 2015.
      • Underlying production for the nine months was broadly flat versus the same period in 2015.
    • Capex - Capital expenditure on an accruals basis for the third quarter was $3.7 bln, of which organic capital expenditure was $3.6 bln, compared with $4.3 bln for the same period in 2015, almost all of which was organic.
      • Organic capital expenditure for 2016 is now expected to be around $16 bln, down from $17-19 bln prior, and in the range $15-17 bln in 2017.
    • Outlook
      • Upstream - Looking ahead, we expect fourth-quarter reported production to be slightly higher than the third quarter, mainly reflecting recovery from planned seasonal turnaround and maintenance activity.
      • Downstream - In the fourth quarter we expect a higher level of turnaround activity compared with the third quarter, and that industry refining margins will continue to be under pressure
    • Dividend: BP announced a quarterly dividend of $0.10 per ordinary share ($0.600 per ADS), which is expected to be paid on 16 December 2016. The corresponding amount in sterling will be announced on 6 December 2016.

    Tuesday, April 26, 2016

    =BP plc (BP) reported Q1 earnings on Tue 26 Apr 2016 (b/o)

BP beats by $0.19, misses on revs; leaves dividend unchanged :
    • Reports Q1 (Mar) earnings of $0.17 per share, $0.19 better than the Capital IQ Consensus of ($0.02); revenues fell 28.9% year/year to $38.51 bln vs the $39.59 bln two analyst estimate.
    • Segment results
      • BP's Downstream segment reported an underlying pre-tax replacement cost profit of $1.8 billion, compared with $1.2 billion for the previous quarter. Lower costs, strong refining operations and an improved supply and trading contribution more than offset the impact of the weaker refining environment and the seasonal reduction in fuels sales.
      • BP's Upstream segment reported an underlying pre-tax replacement cost loss of $747 million for the quarter, broadly similar to the previous quarter's result. Lower costs, including the benefits of simplification programmes and lower exploration write-offs, largely offset the impact of lower oil and gas prices. BP reported $66 million as its estimated share of Rosneft earnings for the quarter4, compared with $235 million in the previous quarter.
    • BP's overall production of oil and gas, including Rosneft4, was 3.5 million barrels of oil and gas equivalent a day. Excluding Rosneft, BP's Upstream production was 2.4 mmboe/d, 5.2% higher than a year earlier.

BP adjusted profit sinks 96% on massive write-down BP -4.59% Tuesday posted a dramatic fall of 96% in adjusted profit for the second quarter as the U.K. oil giant wrote down the value of some $5 billion worth of assets, including some U.S. refineries, the suspended Liberty oil and gas project in Alaska and a range of U.S. shale gas assets.

"We recognize this was a weak earnings quarter, driven by a combination of factors affecting both the sector and BP specifically," said Chief Executive Bob Dudley in a statement.

The company said its replacement cost profit, a figure that strips out gains or losses from inventories, fell for the period to $238 million, compared with $5.41 billion for the second quarter of 2011.
The London-based energy giant posted a net loss for the three months ended June 30 of $1.39 billion, compared with a profit of $5.72 billion for the second quarter of 2011.

Its keenly-watched clean replacement cost profit, which doesn't include exceptional items like the asset write-downs, was $3.69 billion, down 35% from $5.71 billion the previous year. This was far below average expectations of $4.49 billion in a Dow Jones Newswires poll of 11 analysts
