=ASML (ASML) reported earnings on Wed 17 Oct 2018 (b/o)



ASML beats on the top and bottom line; sees Q4 revs above consensus 
  • Co reported Q3 EPS of EUR 1.60 versus EUR 1.58 Capital IQ consensus; Q3 net sales roughly unchanged QoQ at EUR 2.78 billion vs EUR 2.759 bln Capital IQ consensus
  • ASML expects Q4 2018 net sales of about EUR 3.0 billion (versus EUR 2.9 bln Capital IQ consensus) and a gross margin around 48 percent.
  • "We shipped and recognized revenue for five EUV systems in the third quarter. In addition, we received five EUV orders. We expect to ship a total of 18 EUV systems this year. Our 2019 shipment plan is 30 systems as the first customers are about to start high volume production using EUV."

ASML beats by EUR 0.44, beats on revs; guides Q1 revs below consensus; announces new buyback
  • Reports Q4 (Dec) earnings of 1.50 per share, 0.44 better than the Capital IQ Consensus of 1.06; revenues rose 34.3% year/year to 2.56 bln vs the 2.15 bln Capital IQ Consensus.
    • Q4 gross margin 45.2%
  • Co issues downside guidance for Q1, sees Q1 revs of ~EUR2.2 bln vs. 2.34 bln Capital IQ Consensus Estimate.
    • Q1 gross margin between 47-48%
  • Co proposes 17 percent dividend increase to EUR 1.40 per share
  • New Share Buyback Program
    • As part of ASML's financial policy to return excess cash to shareholders through dividends and regularly timed share buybacks, ASML announces a new share buyback program, to be executed within the 2018-2019 time frame. As part of this program, ASML intends to purchase shares up to EUR 2.5 billion.
    • ASML intends to cancel these shares after repurchase, with the exception of up to 2.4 million shares which will be used to cover employee share plans.
    • This buyback program will start on January 18, 2018.

ASML beats by $0.08, beats on revs; guides Q1 revs below consensus; proposes to raise dividend by 50%, plan for additional EUR 1 billion share repurchases :
  • Reports Q4 (Dec) earnings of 0.68 per share, 0.08 better than the Capital IQ Consensus of 0.60; revenues fell 4.0% year/year to 1.43 bln vs the 1.42 bln Capital IQ Consensus.
  • Co issues downside guidance for Q1, sees Q1 revs of EUR1.3 bln vs. 1.41 bln Capital IQ Consensus Estimate.
  • Dividend and new Share Buyback Program
    • ASML proposes a dividend per ordinary share which is 50 percent higher compared with last year - to declare a dividend in respect of 2015 of EUR 1.05 per ordinary share (for a total amount of approximately EUR 450 million), compared with a dividend of EUR 0.70 per ordinary share paid in respect of 2014.
    • ASML also announces a new share buyback program, to be executed within the 2016-2017 time frame.
      • As part of this program, ASML intends to purchase shares up to EUR 1.5 billion, which includes an amount of approximately EUR 500 million remaining from the prior program, announced on January 21, 2015. ASML intends to cancel the shares upon repurchase. This buyback program will start on January 21, 2016.
