BURLINGTON, Mass. (AP) _ Nuance Communications Inc. (NUAN) on Tuesday reported a loss of $33.8 million in its fiscal second quarter.
On a per-share basis, the Burlington, Massachusetts-based company said it had a loss of 12 cents. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, were 32 cents per share.
The results missed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of four analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 38 cents per share.
The voice and language technology company posted revenue of $499.6 million in the period. Its adjusted revenue was $511.1 million, which topped Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $495.2 million.
Nuance Communications shares have increased 22 percent since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Tuesday, shares hit $18.16, a climb of almost 9 percent in the last 12 months.
