SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) _ O'Reilly Automotive Inc. (ORLY) on Wednesday reported third-quarter profit of $278.5 million.

The Springfield, Missouri-based company said it had profit of $2.90 per share.

The results did not meet Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of 12 analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $2.92 per share.

The auto parts retailer posted revenue of $2.22 billion in the period, meeting Street forecasts.

O'Reilly Automotive expects full-year earnings to be $10.58 to $10.68 per share, with revenue in the range of $8.5 billion to $8.6 billion.

O'Reilly Automotive shares have increased slightly more than 9 percent since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has climbed nearly 5 percent. In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, shares hit $277.16, an increase of roughly 6 percent in the last 12 months.
